Overview of NMC’s Decision

Agartala: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued temporary permission to Dr. Pran Gopal Dutta, a distinguished physician from Bangladesh, to provide voluntary clinical services at Tripura Santiniketan Medical College in Agartala, Tripura. This approval falls under Section 34 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019, which was granted following an application for Dr. Dutta’s services at the institution.

Details of the Permission

An official notice from the Ethics and Medical Registration Board (EMRB) of the NMC addressed to the Principal of Tripura Santiniketan Medical College specified that this temporary permission is effective from October 13, 2025, to October 12, 2026, automatically expiring on the latter date.

Visa Requirements and Compliance

The NMC has emphasized that Dr. Dutta must possess a valid visa that permits him to work in India. The institution is required to ensure compliance with this condition. The communication stated, “This permission is valid from 13/10/2025 to 12/10/2026, and will expire on 12/10/2026, with the condition that the visa should be of an appropriate category as deemed applicable, which permits him to work in India.” It is the responsibility of the sponsoring institute to submit proof of compliance along with a copy of the visa to the EMRB.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

The NMC has warned that any use of this permission after the expiration date will be considered illegal, and strict measures may be taken against unauthorized medical practice. “This permission is valid only for the purpose stated in the Medical Institute/Hospital which has sponsored the candidate. Should the duration of temporary permission extend beyond the specified period, the candidate must inform the concerned State Medical Council with this authority letter,” the communication further added.
