Varanasi: Murder Case Registered Against Anaesthetist

Details of the Case

The Rohania police in Varanasi have filed a murder case against an anaesthetist and professor from the Anaesthesia Department of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) along with one unidentified individual. This action follows a court directive from the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in Varanasi concerning the death of a hospital worker in July 2019.

Background of the Complaint

The First Information Report (FIR) was initiated based on a complaint from the deceased’s brother, who accused the anaesthetist of deliberately causing his brother’s death. The victim had been employed as an assistant at a private hospital in Chitaipur, where the accused had previously worked as an anaesthetist.

Allegations of Conspiracy

According to reports from The Times of India, tensions arose when the deceased allegedly recorded an objectionable video of the anaesthetist. The complainant stated that after the doctor learned of the recording, he demanded its return. When the victim reportedly refused, this allegedly led to a conspiracy aimed at recovering the video.

Incident Details

The complainant asserted that on July 30, 2019, the anaesthetist took the victim to Ahraura dam in Mirzapur under the pretense of a picnic. It is claimed that alcohol was consumed along with two other companions, following which the victim was allegedly pushed into the dam, resulting in his death.

Investigation Status

Rohania police station in-charge Raju Singh confirmed the registration of the FIR on February 7, immediately after receiving the court’s order. He noted that due to the incident occurring nearly seven years ago, the police are currently in the process of re-examining evidence and reopening the investigation.

Previous Police Actions

Initially, the police had registered a case shortly after the incident in 2019 but later filed a final report that deemed the death accidental. Displeased with this conclusion, the deceased’s brother sought legal recourse, leading the court to direct the filing of a new FIR.
