DCP Celebrates Another Year of Excellence

Overview of the Dental Care Professionals Conference

The Dental Care Professionals Conference (DCP) took place this year at DMS Whittington, marking a celebration of dental excellence and outreach accomplished by Defence personnel. The event featured various workshops and discussions aimed at enhancing knowledge and recognizing the achievements of those in the field.

Mental Fitness Workshop

Sgt A. Gooding-Edghill led a mental fitness workshop that received significant interest. Participants reflected on the impact of mental health on both their work experiences and overall well-being.

Medical Emergencies Discussion

Margaret Neary conducted a session on medical emergencies, highlighting their importance for personnel both at home and abroad.

Insights from the RN Pacific Partnership

One of the most captivating presentations was delivered by DN J. Gibbins, who shared inspiring stories from the RN Pacific Partnership. This talk included tales of their travels to various locations, support for local care professionals, and even the introduction of a new canine companion.

Mouth Cancer Update

Surg Lt Cdr T. Pepper provided an update on mouth cancer, noting its steady increase over the past decade.

Oral Health Awards Ceremony

The event concluded with the Oral Health Awards. Surg Lt Cdr (D) Jennifer Paterson, Deputy Senior Dental Officer HMS Drake, remarked, “It was fantastic to see so many of our DCPs both in person and online. This year, everyone enjoyed some core topics from external presenters as well as niche presentations focusing on military dentistry. Not only is the conference a great opportunity for CPD, but also a wonderful occasion to recognize those who have excelled in oral health promotion and prevention through the Oral Health Awards. We are grateful for the support from Amanda and the team at the Oral Health Foundation for their assistance with the Oral Health Awards and the DCP conference.”

Looking to the Future

As the year concludes, the Oral Health Foundation expresses hope for continued support in the future, aiming to provide more knowledge and assistance to those in need.
