Myth: Full-Fat Milk and Saturated Solid Oils Reduce Rheumatoid Arthritis Risk

This assertion is incorrect. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune condition characterized by the immune system’s erroneous attack on the body’s own tissues and joints, leading to inflammation. Individuals suffering from rheumatoid arthritis often experience joint stiffness and swelling, resulting in discomfort and pain. These symptoms can limit joint mobility, damage bones and cartilage, and lead to chronic pain.

Research Insights on Diet and Rheumatoid Arthritis

A study conducted by Masoume Rambod and colleagues, published in Clinical Rheumatology, aimed to explore the relationship between dietary habits and the likelihood of developing rheumatoid arthritis. The research involved participants both with and without the condition to analyze their dietary patterns.

Findings revealed that individuals with rheumatoid arthritis tend to consume higher amounts of full-fat milk, fried foods, butter, solid oils, and spicy dishes compared to healthy participants who do not have the condition. This correlation raises important questions about the influence of diet on rheumatoid arthritis.
