Myth vs. Truth: The Impact of Pomegranate Supplements on Blood Sugar Levels
Myth: Pomegranate Supplements Affect Insulin and Blood Sugar Levels
Many believe that pomegranate supplements can influence insulin or blood sugar levels in individuals, particularly those with diabetes. This notion is inaccurate.
Truth: No Significant Effects on Blood Glucose Management
Research indicates that pomegranate supplements do not aid in managing blood glucose levels, especially among diabetic patients. Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition that affects millions globally, necessitating effective management strategies for blood sugar stabilization, including exercise and dietary supplements.
Pomegranates are widely recognized for their high antioxidant content, which contributes to their use in disease prevention and treatment. Some studies have proposed that pomegranates may enhance blood sugar control and insulin sensitivity.
However, a study from China published in the Nutrition Journal assessed the efficacy of pomegranate treatments in regulating blood glucose levels. The study compared the effects of pomegranate juice and pomegranate oil over a 12-week period. Findings revealed no significant changes in glucose or insulin concentrations resulting from pomegranate supplementation.
Consequently, the belief that pomegranates can effectively manage blood sugar levels has been debunked.
