Medical Seats Availability in Delhi for Academic Year 2025-26
Total MBBS and Postgraduate Seats
New Delhi: Recently, the Union Minister of State for Health, Smt Anupriya Patel, announced in the Lok Sabha that there are 1,396 MBBS seats and 3,017 postgraduate medical seats available in Delhi. This information was provided in response to queries from Parliament member Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri regarding the total number of medical seats in Delhi’s medical colleges.
Inquiries on Medical Seat Requirements
Shri Bidhuri sought clarification on whether the Government has conducted any studies to assess the demand for medical seats in Delhi. He also requested details about the various streams offered in medical colleges and the corresponding number of seats for each stream.
Official Response from the Health Ministry
In her response, Minister Patel stated, “As informed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), there are a total of 1,396 MBBS seats in medical colleges in Delhi for the Academic Year 2025-26. Furthermore, there are currently 3,017 postgraduate seats available.” She also provided an annexure detailing the course-wise distribution of seats across various specialties.

The availability of course-wise and stream-wise seats in medical colleges across Delhi is subject to revision, and final numbers may change based on pending processing of Super Specialty applications, outcomes of appeals, and any further regulatory approvals.
DNB and Super Specialty Seats in Delhi
The Health Ministry’s data also indicates 1,029 DNB Broad Specialty, 466 DrNB Super Specialty, 106 FNB Fellowship, and 89 Post MBBS Diploma (Broad Specialty) seats. The highest number of DNB Broad Specialty seats are in Anaesthesiology (151), General Medicine (112), General Surgery (76), Obstetrics and Gynecology (113), and Paediatrics (102).
