Dewas Incident: IAS Officer’s Alleged Misconduct Towards On-Duty Doctor
Viral Video Captures Confrontation
A video shared by a physician on the social media platform ‘X’ has gone viral, depicting an IAS officer reportedly misbehaving with an on-duty doctor at a government hospital in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh. The incident arose over the referral of a patient suffering from a head injury.
Context of the Referral
In the video, the doctor asserts that the IAS officer challenged the decision to refer a seemingly normal head injury case to a higher medical facility. However, the doctor clarified that the patient was actually experiencing a head injury complicated by internal bleeding, a serious and potentially life-threatening condition.
Importance of Proper Medical Care
The physician elaborated that internal bleeding in the brain requires immediate intervention from a skilled neurosurgeon and access to advanced medical equipment, which basic medical facilities may lack. In the social media post, the doctor questioned the appropriateness of the IAS officer’s treatment of medical professionals, asking, “Is this the right way to treat a doctor? Did the doctor do anything wrong by giving the patient correct medical advice and referring them for higher care?”
Public Reaction and Comments
The video has amassed over 130,000 views, eliciting numerous reactions from both medical professionals and the general public. One user commented, “IAS officers are the most entitled section of the country. Even politicians are humble at times. IAS officers literally think they own the country because they passed some memory test exam.” Another user mockingly remarked, “IAS Officer studied MBBS and MD – Neurology as an optional subject, so he is right. How dare the puny doctor correct him?”
Related Incidents
This incident mirrors other recent controversies in the medical field, such as the suspension of a Pulmonary Medicine doctor at IGMC Shimla following a viral video showing him assaulting a patient, and a junior doctor at GMC Handwara who was suspended after a video displayed a patient left unattended.
