Srinagar: Dr. Hameed Raina, a distinguished gastroenterologist from Kashmir, has once again garnered international recognition for his proficiency in advanced endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and innovative gastroenterology techniques. This marks his fourth global accolade in recent years.

Best Video Award at International Conference

According to Kashmir Dot Com, Dr. Raina received the Best Video Award for the second time at the International Hepatopancreatic Biliary Conference held in Dubai in 2025. He is the first gastroenterologist from Kashmir to achieve such an esteemed honor in the specialized fields of endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and interventional endoscopy.

Presentation on Advanced Techniques

During the conference, Dr. Raina presented his clinical work titled “EUS-Guided Cystogastrostomy and Direct Endoscopic Necrosectomy (DEN) in Post-Pancreatitis Walled-Off Necrosis.” This advanced, minimally invasive technique is utilized to manage severe pancreatic complications. His presentation received widespread acclaim from global experts for its innovation, precision, and substantial impact on improving patient outcomes, further elevating Jammu and Kashmir’s reputation in medical excellence.

Dr. Raina’s Educational and Professional Background

Educational Qualifications

Dr. Raina is a qualified Gastroenterologist, Hepatologist, Therapeutic Endoscopist, and Endosonographer (EUS), as well as a Third Space and Bariatric Endoscopist. He completed his MBBS at the Government Medical College in Srinagar and earned his MD in Internal Medicine from Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS). He further advanced his education with a DM in Gastroenterology and Hepatology from Tata Hospital in Mumbai (2016-2019) and obtained the MRCP-UK certification.

To expand his expertise, Dr. Raina pursued several super-specialized fellowships in areas such as motility disorders, pH metry, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic ultrasound, advanced therapeutic endoscopy, and third space endoscopy at prestigious global centers.

Dr. Raina’s clinical interests encompass a wide array of adult and pediatric gastrointestinal, liver, pancreaticobiliary diseases, and obesity. He specializes in diagnosing and managing complex conditions such as early gastrointestinal cancers, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), motility gastrointestinal disorders, and small bowel diseases through capsule endoscopy and enteroscopy.

Advanced Endoscopic Procedures

He possesses expertise in diagnostic and interventional gastrointestinal and mediastinal EUS, which includes EUS-guided biopsies, pseudocyst drainage, gallbladder, pancreatic, and biliary drainage, gastrojejunostomy, and variceal coiling. His proficiency also extends to third-space endoscopy, performing techniques such as POEM, ESD, STER, and EFTR. Additionally, he conducts direct endoscopic necrosectomy (DEN) for peripancreatic necrotic collections.

Dr. Raina has introduced several advanced endoscopic procedures, including POEM for achalasia cardia, POES for Zenker’s diverticulum, STER, and EFTR for submucosal tumor removal, G-POEM for gastroparesis, EUS-guided liver biopsy, and EUS-guided coiling of rectal varices.
