Immediate Appointment by Telangana Government
The Telangana government has appointed Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy as the in-charge Vice-Chancellor of Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS) effective immediately. Dr. Reddy is currently the principal of the Government Medical College (GMC) in Yadadri Bhongir.
Official Notification Details
The official notification regarding this appointment was issued on Thursday, December 4, 2025, by Health Department Secretary Christina Z. Chongthu. The order states, “In exercise of the powers conferred under Provision of the Section 12 of the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences Act, 1986 (Act No.6 of 1986), Government hereby appoint Dr. K. Ramesh Reddy, Principal, Government Medical College, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri as in-charge Vice Chancellor to Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal, with immediate effect, until further orders.”
Dr. Reddy’s Previous Roles
Dr. Reddy has an extensive background in medical education and administration. He served as the Director of Medical Education from 2017 to 2023. Additionally, he has held positions as the Principal of Gandhi Medical College and the Commissioner of the Telangana Vaidya Vidhana Parishad. His experience also includes being a member of the Medical Council of India and serving as a Professor and Head of Pediatric Surgery at Niloufer Hospital, Hyderabad. Furthermore, he was the Vice Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council and Secretary General of the Andhra Pradesh Government Doctors’ Association (APGDA), which represents government-employed doctors in Andhra Pradesh.
Ad-Hoc Appointment and Legal Challenges
In 2022, Dr. Reddy was appointed on an ad-hoc basis as the Director of Medical Education. However, his tenure faced legal challenges from Dr. Narender Kumar, who had a higher rank in the seniority list for the Additional Director position. The High Court intervened due to the absence of a seniority list, which was eventually finalized in 2021, allowing for promotions to the post of Additional Directors.
Recent Developments at KNRUHS
This appointment follows recent events at KNRUHS, where the previous Vice-Chancellor resigned amid allegations of significant discrepancies and irregularities in the postgraduate (MD/MS) theory exam evaluations. Reports indicate that the Telangana government is considering appointing an IAS officer as the new Vice-Chancellor.
