Mumbai Wildlife Photographer Wins National Geographic India Competition
Dr. Tushar Ambadkar’s Achievement
Amravati-based wildlife and bird photographer, as well as homeopathy practitioner, Dr. Tushar Ambadkar, has achieved first place in a prestigious photography competition organized by National Geographic India. His compelling photograph, which depicts two Wood Sandpiper birds engaged in a territorial clash, earned the top honor in the ‘Capture in Motion’ single-photo category, outshining thousands of submissions from participants nationwide.
Professional Background
In addition to his photography accomplishments, Dr. Ambadkar has been the Managing Director of Dr. Tushar Ambadkar Advanced Homeopathy Clinic since December 2010. He is an alumnus of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and completed his studies at Takhatmal Shrivallabh Homoeopathic Medical College in Amravati. His educational background strengthens his unique combination of medical practice and passion for wildlife photography.
The Journey into Wildlife Photography
Dr. Ambadkar began his journey into wildlife photography in 2011, starting with a basic point-and-shoot camera, the only equipment he could afford at the time. Accompanied by his close friend and fellow healthcare professional, Dr. Prajakt Raul, he embarked on this creative path.
“I didn’t have money, many connections, or exposure. All I had was curiosity, patience, great zeal, and a deep love for birds, wildlife, and nature. My first subjects were the birds around my backyard in Amravati and the nearby forest. Every click was slow, imperfect, and full of learning,” he shared in a social media post.
While others upgraded their cameras, Dr. Ambadkar focused on enhancing his vision and pre-visualization skills. “I waited. I observed. I failed. I tried again. There was one dream that stayed with me through every doubt and delay: ‘One day, my work will be featured by National Geographic,’” he reflected.
Belief in Pursuing Dreams
He continued, “Years passed. Seasons changed. From local forests to distant wetlands, from early morning wake-ups to golden hours, I kept reminding myself of one belief that shaped everything: I always believed in ‘Chase the light,’ which motivated me to capture the raw beauty of the jungle of India. Finally, today in 2026, that dream found its moment.”
Message to Aspiring Photographers
Delivering an inspiring message for aspiring photographers, Dr. Ambadkar noted, “Being selected as the Winner of National Geographic India’s ‘Capture In Motion’ Photography Contest, among thousands of entries from all over the world, is not just a win—it’s a reminder that dreams do come true. This honor and award belongs to every early morning wake-up, sleepless night, every missed shot, every limitation that taught me patience, and every time I chose passion over comfort. To anyone starting small, waiting long, or doubting themselves, keep chasing the light. It knows your name.”
