Cyber Fraud Case in Faridabad
Doctor Duped of Rs 41.5 Lakh
In a troubling incident of cyber fraud, a 42-year-old doctor from Faridabad has reportedly fallen victim to a scam, losing Rs 41.5 lakh. The fraudsters utilized a fake trading account on Telegram, as confirmed by police on Sunday.
Details of the Incident
The deception occurred on December 24, 2025, when the doctor was convinced to deposit Rs 30 lakh in order to withdraw Rs 1.57 crore from a fraudulent trading account set up in his name. Officials stated that the victim initially encountered the scammers through two Telegram channels in August 2025. These channels were operated by an individual known as “Keli,” who shared screenshots showcasing significant earnings purportedly made by clients from trading investments.
Initial Investment and Promised Returns
After being persuaded by the attractive returns of 40-60%, the victim made an initial investment of Rs 5,000. A senior official from the NIT Cyberpolice station noted that the victim, who resides in the Housing Board area of Sector 49, had already invested nearly Rs 10.5 lakh prior to being lured into making a larger deposit. The fraudsters claimed that 20% of the profits earned since November 2025 would be taken as their commission.
Further Manipulation and Final Withdrawal
The complainant reported being trained by two alleged trading experts who convinced him to invest an additional Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 5 lakh in separate installments on December 6 and 12, 2025. On December 24, the scammers reportedly withdrew the final amount from the doctor’s bank account via a web link, promising returns three times the amount deposited.
Realization of Fraud and Police Action
As the victim repeatedly sought his returns, the fraudsters ceased communication, leading him to realize he had been scammed. In response, an FIR was filed under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against the unidentified suspects at the NIT Cyberpolice station.
Ongoing Investigation
Yadav, a senior official, stated that efforts are being made through technical surveillance to identify the suspects and locate them. He assured that strict action would be taken against those responsible and that measures are in progress to recover the defrauded funds, as reported by the Hindustan Times.
