Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari Bhatt Arrested for Alleged Fraud

Details of the Arrest

Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari Bhatt, were apprehended in Mumbai on Sunday in connection with allegations of cheating Dr. Ajay Murdia, the founder of Indira IVF hospital, out of Rs 30 crore. The doctor reportedly sought to create a biopic about his late wife.

Legal Proceedings

The Rajasthan Police plans to request a transit remand for the Bhatt couple at the Bandra court on Monday, according to a Mumbai police official. An FIR was previously filed against Vikram Bhatt for allegedly deceiving the Udaipur-based doctor.

Allegations of Fraud

Reports indicate that Bhatt allegedly enticed Dr. Murdia into financing films with promises of returns amounting to Rs 200 crore. Bhatt has refuted these claims, asserting that the police are being “misled.” The fraud case was registered at the Bhupalpura police station on November 8, involving Vikram Bhatt, Shwetambari Bhatt, and others, totaling seven individuals.

Background of the Case

Dr. Murdia, owner of Indira IVF Hospital, claimed he was promised substantial earnings but saw no results, prompting him to file a complaint at the Bhupalpura police station. The official stated that this led to the registration of the FIR for cheating and other related offenses. Prior to the arrest of the Bhatt couple, two other individuals were taken into custody in connection with the case.

Additional Reports of Fraud

In a separate incident, Medic Helpline reported a significant cyber fraud case involving a 44-year-old doctor from Erragadda, who was allegedly defrauded of Rs 14.61 crore through a fake online trading platform. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau is currently investigating this matter to identify the suspects and determine if more individuals are involved.
