According to a letter directed to the Dean of GMERS Medical College, the attack occurred on December 21 at approximately 11:30 PM. The assailant reportedly entered the residential area without authorization and attacked the doctor. Concerns Over Security Measures
The JDA pointed out that they had previously raised issues regarding insufficient security on the hostel campus multiple times, yet no effective actions were taken. “We would like to highlight that repeated prior representations regarding the absence of adequate security arrangements in the hostel campus were already made to the concerned authorities,” the association stated in their letter. They emphasized that the lack of action led to this unfortunate incident.
Demands for Enhanced Security
The resident doctors are demanding a written assurance from the college authorities within 24 hours to implement adequate security measures. These measures include:
– Continuous deployment of trained security personnel
– Strict control over unauthorized access to hostel premises
– Installation and proper functioning of CCTV cameras
– A formal inquiry into the incident with strict consequences for those involved
Consequences of Inaction
The association made it clear that if the authorities do not enforce these measures within the specified timeframe, they will proceed with their indefinite strike. “Failing receipt of satisfactory assurance and visible implementation of the above security measures within 24 hours of this intimation, we, the resident doctors, will be compelled to proceed with an indefinite strike,” the association added. They expressed hope for prompt intervention and resolution in the interest of safety and institutional harmony.
