Incident Overview

In a troubling incident in Gurugram, a 30-year-old female doctor was reportedly assaulted within the outpatient department (OPD) of her own hospital located in Rajendra Park. The attack was allegedly carried out by two women while the doctor was attending to her patients.

Details of the Assault

The accused women reportedly forced their entry into the hospital, alleging that the doctor owed them a loan of Rs 3 lakh. They demanded that she relinquish control of the hospital to them. According to police sources, the assault escalated to the point where one of the attackers reportedly attempted to strangle the doctor with a cable in front of patients and their relatives. The situation became more dangerous as the women dragged the doctor out of the hospital until other doctors and staff intervened to assist her.

Legal Action Taken

Following the incident, the two women were charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections for voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, and house trespass, among others. They were also booked under provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Context of the Dispute

According to a report by HT, the incident occurred on November 26, when the women allegedly invaded the OPD due to a loan repayment dispute. The doctor stated that the assailants, who are sisters and operate as moneylenders, had been pressuring her for months to surrender her hospital, insisting she owed them money. When she refused their demands, they reportedly attacked her in front of other patients.

Threats and Subsequent Events

The accused allegedly hurled casteist slurs at the doctor and pressured her to sign documents relinquishing her ownership of the hospital, threatening to implicate her in false cases. The situation escalated until bystanders began to gather, prompting the suspects to flee the scene. The women reportedly returned the next day but left after failing to locate the doctor.

Medical Response and Police Investigation

After the attack, the doctor was taken to PGIMS Rohtak for medical treatment to ensure her safety away from the suspects. She also reported that the assailants returned to the hospital on a subsequent occasion when law enforcement was present, behaving aggressively toward the police when they attempted to detain them.

Current Status of the Investigation

As of now, the suspects have not been apprehended. Police involved in the investigation indicated they are exploring whether the incident had any elements of a hate crime. Sandeep Turan, the public relations officer of Gurugram police, confirmed that CCTV footage of the incident has been collected and assured that appropriate action would be taken against the suspects soon. The preliminary investigation points to an ongoing financial dispute between the parties involved, but authorities are considering additional factors.
