Investigation Launched into Medical Negligence Case in Hyderabad

Incident Overview

In a troubling incident of alleged medical negligence, a doctor in Shaikpet is currently under investigation following the serious condition of a 31-year-old dentist. The dentist reportedly slipped into a coma after receiving incorrect injections at the clinic.

Patient’s Medical History

The dentist visited the clinic on November 22, presenting symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and a sore throat. According to her brother, he had clearly informed the attending physician about her documented allergy to penicillin-group antibiotics.

Details of the Incident

Despite the warning regarding the allergy, the attending doctor administered an injection of Monocef. The patient subsequently experienced adverse reactions, including skin redness, itching, and bluish lips. In response, the physician provided two additional injections—Avil and Hydrocort. Within 30 seconds, the dentist collapsed in the clinic and suffered a severe anaphylactic reaction, leading to cardiac arrest around 4:15 PM, as stated by her brother in a police complaint, according to reports from TOI.

Emergency Response

Instead of promptly calling an ambulance, clinic staff placed the dentist in an autorickshaw and transported her to a hospital in Gachibowli. Upon arrival, she was found unresponsive, lacking a pulse, and was diagnosed with hypoxic brain injury due to extended oxygen deprivation. She is currently on a ventilator in the intensive care unit.

Legal Actions and Investigations

The Film Nagar police have formally registered a case against the attending doctor under Section 125 of the BNS Act, which addresses actions that endanger the life or personal safety of others. This case was registered on November 29, and authorities are actively investigating the circumstances that led to the dentist’s collapse.

Statements from Authorities

M Prem Raj, a sub-inspector at Film Nagar Police Station, provided an update, stating, “We have recorded the statement of the complainant and his mother. We requested the hospital to supply all records related to the patient, including the case sheet. The patient remains on a ventilator and unconscious. We will also record the statement of the accused doctor soon.”
