Arrest of KGMU Doctor in Sexual Assault Case

Background of the Case

Lucknow’s Surveillance Unit, in collaboration with the Police Station Chowk, has apprehended a wanted resident doctor from King George’s Medical University (KGMU). The doctor was facing serious allegations, including repeated sexual assault under the guise of marriage and coercion for religious conversion. A reward of Rs 50,000 was placed on his capture.

Operation Details

The operation was initiated under the directives of the Police Commissioner of Lucknow, with guidance from Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava and Additional DCP Dhananjay Singh Kushwaha. The arrest was executed under the leadership of Inspector-in-Charge Chowk, Nagesh Upadhyay, as reported by news agency UNI.

Victim’s Allegations

The complaint, lodged on December 23, 2025, was made by a junior female medical student at KGMU. She accused her senior of establishing a physical relationship with her based on a promise of marriage. Furthermore, she alleged that he forced her to undergo an abortion without her consent and pressured her into converting her religion.

Legal Proceedings

In response to the victim’s allegations, Case Crime No. 302/2025 was registered at Police Station Chowk. This case encompasses various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021. Investigations revealed that the accused had committed similar offenses against another female medical student, involving rape, forced abortion, and religious conversion.

Involvement of Family Members

Evidence indicated that the accused’s family members were also complicit, pressuring the victim and attempting to arrange a forced marriage with the accused’s son. As a result, additional serious charges have been incorporated into the case.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

On January 5, 2026, the accused’s parents, who reside in Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand, were arrested and placed in judicial custody. The primary suspect, known for his cunning nature, had been evading authorities since the case was registered. Consequently, the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime and Headquarters) in Lucknow announced a reward for his capture.

Details of the Arrest

Following information from informants and electronic surveillance, the joint police team successfully arrested the wanted doctor on Friday at approximately 2:40 PM near the City Station gate in Lucknow. At the time of his arrest, he was residing in a rented flat in the Thakurganj area, though his permanent residence is in Pilibhit district, Uttar Pradesh.
