Madurai: Authorities have arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly harassing and threatening a woman medical officer at the Government Hospital in Sholavandan. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of healthcare professionals in government facilities.

According to police reports, the accused was admitted to the Sholavandan Government Hospital on January 9 after sustaining cut injuries from a blade while under the influence of alcohol. During his hospitalization, he reportedly threatened the doctor, demanding treatment.
Subsequent Actions and Arrest
The individual was later transferred to the Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH); however, he escaped from there and returned to the Sholavandan Government Hospital, where he harassed the doctor again on Monday, as reported by The Hindu. Following the doctor’s complaint, the Sholavandan police arrested him for using abusive language and obstructing a government official from performing her duties. He has since been presented before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

After rejecting his advances, the woman doctor filed a complaint at the Airfield Police Station. Following this, police registered an FIR and arrested the accused under relevant sections of the law.
