In a troubling incident at Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal, 15 MBBS students have been suspended due to their involvement in a violent clash on campus. The conflict reportedly began late at night over a trivial dispute regarding the order of serving instant noodles at the college canteen. Tensions escalated between day scholars and hostel students, leading to a physical confrontation. Eyewitness accounts indicate that participants wielded iron rods, sticks, and batons during the fight. A first-year student narrowly avoided severe injury, but unfortunately, a doctor was not as fortunate and ended up requiring ICU care.
Sequence of Events
The clash occurred around midnight on December 4, as hostel students arrived at the canteen for noodles. Discontent arose over the presence of day scholars at the canteen during late hours. Reports suggest that some students may have been intoxicated, causing a minor disagreement to spiral into a violent brawl. A student from the 2024 batch was reportedly attacked by approximately 15 senior students. When a senior resident doctor tried to intervene, he was violently assaulted, resulting in significant head and body injuries.
Aftermath and Official Response
Following the incident, the injured first-year student received treatment for arm and shoulder injuries and was later discharged. Conversely, the doctor required hospitalization in the ICU. The affected student subsequently lodged a complaint at the Koh-e-Fiza police station, prompting the registration of an FIR, with police investigations currently underway.
Disciplinary Actions Taken
In response to the violent incident, the medical college convened an emergency meeting of the Disciplinary Committee on December 5. The committee identified 15 students as responsible for the altercation, leading to their immediate suspension. Additionally, hostel residents were instructed to vacate their rooms without delay.

Dr. Kavita N. Singh, the Dean of the college, condemned the incident as “grave indiscipline.” She emphasized the expectation for medical students to exhibit maturity, restraint, and professionalism, stating, “Violence on campus will not be tolerated. Strict action will continue.”
