Incident at Guna District Hospital Raises Concerns

Viral Video Highlights Doctor’s Alleged Intoxication

A district hospital in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, is facing scrutiny following the emergence of a video that purportedly shows a doctor on duty in an intoxicated state. The incident took place during a night shift when an 80-year-old patient suffering from asthma was brought to the hospital by his family for urgent medical care.

Family’s Distress Over Doctor’s Performance

According to the patient’s relatives, the doctor appeared disoriented while conducting an examination and recommended that the elderly man be admitted to the hospital. After receiving prescribed medications, the family returned to the emergency area to inquire about the patient’s ward. However, the duty doctor was reportedly unable to recall the patient’s admission details, causing confusion and distress among the family members.

Patient’s Account and Reaction

In the video that circulated online, the doctor struggled to respond to basic questions and mistakenly identified another person as the patient. The patient later expressed disbelief over the situation, stating, “God save us from such a drunk doctor…he had no idea what medicine he was giving.” He also claimed that the doctor failed to issue a proper prescription for his treatment.

Immediate Actions Taken by Hospital Authorities

In response to the viral video, hospital officials acted swiftly by asking the doctor to leave the premises. They clarified that no medical tests were conducted at that moment to verify the doctor’s alleged intoxication. Subsequently, the hospital placed the doctor on a seven-day administrative leave and issued a show-cause notice, requesting a written explanation.

Doctor’s Response to Allegations

The doctor, while denying the allegations of intoxication, insisted that he was fully aware of the patient’s treatment. However, during questioning by hospital officials, he reportedly misidentified another individual as the patient.

Official Remarks and Future Actions

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Rajkumar Rishishwar acknowledged the concerns regarding the doctor’s condition. He informed India Today, “The duty doctor’s condition was not good, and he appeared unconscious. A medical officer was sent to advise him to go home.” He further noted that a notice had been issued and that the next steps would depend on the doctor’s response.

Next Steps for the Hospital

Hospital authorities have indicated that they will review the situation after receiving the doctor’s explanation and will determine the appropriate course of action based on the findings.
