National Medical Commission Approves Additional PG Seats for Medical Colleges

New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has authorized an additional 540 postgraduate seats across 89 medical colleges in India. This decision follows the evaluation of applications for new and expanded PG Super-Specialty courses for the academic year 2025-26.

The distribution of approved seats by specialty reveals that DM Cardiology received the highest allocation with 64 seats. Other notable approvals include:
– M.Ch Urology: 48 seats
– M.Ch Surgical Oncology: 40 seats
– M.Ch Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery: 39 seats
– DM Nephrology: 39 seats
– DM Critical Care Medicine: 34 seats
– M.Ch Neurosurgery: 31 seats
– DM Neurology: 25 seats
– M.Ch Paediatric Surgery: 25 seats
– DM Neonatology: 24 seats
– DM Medical Gastroenterology: 20 seats
– M.Ch Surgical Gastroenterology: 18 seats
– DM Clinical Immunology & Rheumatology: 16 seats
– DM Cardiac Anaesthesia: 14 seats
– DM Medical Oncology: 14 seats
– DM Interventional Radiology: 12 seats
Additional specialties such as DM Endocrinology, DM Neuro Anaesthesia, and DM Onco Pathology each received 8 seats, while other specialties received varying numbers of seats based on demand.
Geographical Distribution of Approved Colleges
The newly approved seats span multiple states, including Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

– ACS Medical College and Hospital, Chennai
– Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical Sciences, Bellur
– American International Institute of Medical Sciences, Bedwas
– Amrita School of Medicine, Kochi
– B J Medical College, Ahmedabad
– Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, Bangalore
– Bharati Vidyapeeth University Medical College, Pune
Other institutions include Government Medical Colleges across various states, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, G.B. Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, and many more.
Public Notice and Future Steps
The approval of these seats was communicated through a public notice issued by Dr. M. K Ramesh, President of the Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB). The notice stated, “In continuation to approval granted for PG Seats in Broad Specialties (BS) for AY 2025-26, a list of approved new and increased intake of PG seats for Super-Specialty courses for AY 2025-26 is attached for the information of all stakeholders.”
Furthermore, the individual Letters of Permission (LOPs) for the newly sanctioned or increased PG Super-Specialty seats will be issued soon. Stakeholders are advised to report any discrepancies within seven working days.
