National Medical Commission Initiates Assessor Pool for Medical College Inspections
Overview of the Initiative
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has commenced the establishment of an Assessor Pool aimed at inspecting medical colleges nationwide. The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) has reached out to eligible faculty members from Government Medical Colleges and Institutions, inviting them to express their interest in becoming assessors for forthcoming inspections.
Official Communication and Timeline
According to a communication issued on December 26, 2025, this initiative follows a public notice released on December 22, 2025. In this notice, MARB outlined its plans to initiate inspections for the Academic Year 2026–27. These inspections will evaluate applications related to Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) medical courses, as well as any additional inspections deemed necessary by the Board.
Role of the Medical Assessment & Rating Board
The MARB conducts inspections of medical colleges in accordance with the MARB Regulations established under the NMC Act of 2019. The notice states, “It is to intimate that MARB will start the inspection process in due course for Academic Year (A.Y.) 2026-27 for various UG and PG applications for which faculty from various Government Medical Colleges will be engaged as Assessors for conducting the inspections.” It also mentions that the same group of assessors may be utilized for any additional inspections beyond UG and PG applications.

The inspection of medical colleges plays a vital role in ensuring and enhancing the quality of medical education in India. As the NMC plans to conduct surprise inspections at various medical colleges, the willing faculty from these institutions will be involved in this essential process.
Logistics and Responsibilities
The travel time for inspections, along with the inspection day itself, will be considered as on duty. The NMC will cover travel, lodging expenses, and remuneration for the assessors. All eligible faculty from Government Medical Colleges and Institutions are encouraged to express their willingness via the provided Google link within 15 days of this notice.
Communication Responsibilities for Deans and Principals
Deans and Principals of Government Medical Colleges are requested to disseminate this information to all eligible faculty members. This includes sharing the Google form with faculty who meet the criteria to become PG Guides, as referenced in Section 5 of TEQ-22 and Sections 16 and 17 of the Medical Institutions (Qualifications of Faculty) Regulations, 2025. Furthermore, the assessor pool may also serve as experts for the evaluation and scrutiny of documents and reports related to medical colleges.
