PrECOG and Oncolytics Biotech Collaborate on Metastatic Breast Cancer Study

Introduction to the Joint Study

PrECOG and Oncolytics Biotech have announced a collaboration to initiate a significant study in cancer research. This joint effort will focus on the BRACELET-1 (PrE0113) study, aimed at exploring the use of pelareorep in the treatment of metastatic breast cancer.

Focus on Metastatic Breast Cancer

The study will specifically target hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer, a subtype characterized by cancer cells that harbor receptors for estrogen, progesterone, or both. This type of breast cancer indicates that the disease has spread beyond its original site in the body.

Pelareorep: A Promising Approach

Pelareorep is a virus identified as a safe and well-tolerated biological agent, which will be administered intravenously to patients. This innovative treatment aims to enhance the immune system’s ability to recognize and eliminate tumor cells. By making tumors more susceptible to various treatment combinations, pelareorep could potentially improve patient outcomes.

The Role of Immunotherapy

Immunotherapy, which assists the immune system in combating cancer, has shown promise but remains in the early stages of development for breast cancer treatment. The outcomes of this study could pave the way for immunotherapy as a viable option for patients with hormone receptor-positive cancers.

Next Steps and Timeline

Study design details are currently being finalized and will be submitted to the FDA for approval. If the approval process proceeds smoothly, patient enrollment for the study is expected to commence in 2020.
