Rajasthan Government Enhances Oversight in Medical College-Affiliated Hospitals

The Rajasthan government is poised to implement stricter oversight measures across all hospitals affiliated with medical colleges. This initiative aims to enhance clinical governance and ensure a consistent quality of healthcare services throughout the state.
Departmental Review Meeting Insights
During a departmental review meeting held on Thursday, officials underscored the sensitivity of the public health sector. They cautioned that any administrative or clinical negligence would lead to severe consequences. Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar emphasized the necessity for hospitals to promptly report any staff shortages while maintaining uninterrupted patient services.
Accountability and Performance Reviews
“Rajasthan will introduce measures for stricter monitoring of health services in all medical college-affiliated hospitals, with principals and superintendents to undergo regular performance reviews and be held accountable for lapses,” Khinvsar stated, as reported by PTI.
Immediate Actions Required
In the meeting, Khinvsar directed hospitals to flag any staff shortages immediately while ensuring that no services are disrupted. He also highlighted the importance of enhancing cleanliness, security, and maintenance in hospital facilities. Additionally, he requested major hospitals to establish food courts, providing affordable meal options for patients’ families.
Focus on Efficient Utilization of Resources
Medical Education Secretary Gayatri Rathore cautioned against unnecessary referrals to larger institutions such as Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College and JK Lone Hospital. She noted that many smaller hospitals are under-utilizing their available services. Rathore urged doctors to prioritize patient sensitivity and engage in research.
Long-Term Improvement Targets
Medical Education Commissioner Naresh Goyal called on officials to work towards achieving long-term improvement objectives. The meeting was attended by senior officials, including college principals and superintendents, who will play a pivotal role in these initiatives.
