Rajasthan Medical Council Cancels Licenses of Eight Doctors for Fraudulent Registrations
Investigations Lead to License Revocation
The Rajasthan Medical Council has taken decisive action against eight doctors for allegedly securing their medical registrations using forged documents. This decision follows an internal investigation, culminating in the cancellation of their licenses during the recent General Body Meeting (GBM).
Details of the Cases
Among the eight doctors, three older cases were confirmed, while five new instances were identified. Reports from First India indicate that some of these doctors circumvented the required Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) by submitting falsified degrees from international institutions. Consequently, the registrations of five doctors were canceled, while the suspensions of three others were upheld.
Official Statements and Consequences
Dr. Girshar Goyal, registrar of the Rajasthan Medical Council (RMC), commented on the situation, noting that these issues pertain to earlier registration discrepancies. As a result of the license cancellations, these doctors are now barred from practicing medicine in any capacity. Additionally, a case has been filed against them at the Ashok Nagar Police Station.
Background of the Allegations
Medic Helpline has reported several instances of forged documentation among medical graduates from abroad. The affected doctors reportedly obtained their MBBS degrees from countries such as Kazakhstan, Russia, and Ukraine but failed to pass the FMGE, which is mandatory for Indian nationals with foreign medical qualifications to practice in India.
Previous Investigations and Oversight
In relation to this issue, the former Registrar of RMC and two other personnel were suspended based on a preliminary report from a five-member committee established by State Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khinvsar. This report highlighted procedural flaws in the registration process, revealing negligence and irregularities.
Ongoing Verification Process
In response to the scandal, the State Medical Council has initiated a thorough verification of the documents submitted by over 70,000 doctors to the RMC over the years. This process aims to identify any fraudulent documents that may have been submitted.
National Medical Commission Involvement
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken note of the alleged fraudulent registrations and has requested a report from the State Health Department to further investigate the matter.
