First Recognized Cases of AIDS (1981)

In 1981, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published an article in the “Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report” detailing five individuals in Los Angeles, California, diagnosed with a rare form of pneumonia. This condition is typically found in patients with compromised immune systems and marked the initial identified cases of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).

Birth of Allvar Gullstrand (1862)

Allvar Gullstrand, a renowned Swedish ophthalmologist and optician, was born in 1862. He was instrumental in applying physical mathematics to the analysis of optical images and the refraction of light within the eye. His significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology earned him the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1911.
