On July 15, 1909, French physician and surgeon Jean Hamburger was born. He is renowned for performing the first renal transplantation for kidney disease in France in 1952.

Naming of Alzheimer’s Disease (1910)

In 1910, Emil Kraepelin officially designated Alzheimer’s disease in his publication, “Clinical Psychiatry.” He named the condition after his colleague, Alois Alzheimer.

Birth of Gero Miesenböck (1965)

Austrian neuroscientist Gero Miesenböck was born on July 15, 1965. He currently serves as the Waynflete Professor of Physiology and Director of the CNCB at the University of Oxford. Miesenböck is recognized for being the first scientist to genetically modify nerve cells, enabling their electrical activity to be controlled by light.
