Tragic Incident at AIIMS Nagpur

Details of the Incident

In a heartbreaking event, a first-year dermatology postgraduate student at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Nagpur was discovered dead in her flat located in the Sonegaon area. The student was identified as the daughter of a senior IPS officer.

Investigation Findings

According to police reports, the situation is being treated as a possible suicide. The young woman had reportedly been experiencing stress in recent days. Her roommate found the flat locked from the inside on Tuesday evening. Upon gaining access through an alternate entry, the roommate found her hanging from the ceiling fan, prompting the police to be notified.

Speaking to PTI, a police official stated, “A first-year dermatology student at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has allegedly committed suicide in her flat in Sonegaon area in Nagpur.” The 25-year-old student, whose father serves as a deputy inspector-general in the CRPF in Pune, was located in her residence at Manjira Apartments, Shiv Kailash.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have indicated that, at first glance, the case appears to be a suicide. “She was reportedly under stress for the past few days. Her roommate found the flat locked from inside. After gaining access to the flat from another entry, she found Samruddhi hanging from the ceiling fan and then alerted police,” the official informed PTI.

A panchnama has been conducted, and the post-mortem report is currently pending. Authorities are also in contact with her friends to gather more information regarding the circumstances leading up to this tragedy.

Previous Incidents at AIIMS Nagpur

This incident follows a similar occurrence reported in August, where an MBBS intern at AIIMS Nagpur allegedly took his own life by hanging in his hostel bathroom. A suicide note was found at the scene, but its contents have not been revealed by the police, leaving the reasons behind this student’s actions unclear. Additionally, the deceased intern’s mobile phone has been seized for forensic and digital examination.
