Targeted Attack Claims Life of Rural Doctor in Samastipur
Incident Overview
On Monday night, a tragic event unfolded in Samastipur district when a 45-year-old rural doctor was shot dead in a targeted attack by unidentified assailants. The incident occurred near his residence in Sohma village, located within the Bithan police station jurisdiction.
Details of the Attack
According to police reports, the doctor frequently traveled between villages to provide medical care to patients. On the evening of the incident, he was returning home after attending to a patient when he was intercepted by two individuals on a motorcycle at an embankment close to his home.
One of the attackers exited the motorcycle, brandished a pistol, and fired multiple rounds at the doctor. Tragically, three bullets struck him in the head, resulting in his immediate death. Authorities recovered seven empty cartridges from the scene.
Community Response
Upon hearing the gunfire, local villagers rushed to the scene, only to find the doctor lying in a pool of blood. Although they quickly alerted his family, the assailants had already escaped by the time help arrived.
Police Investigation
Rosda DSP Sanjay Kumar visited the scene shortly after receiving news of the incident. The police have taken possession of the body for further investigation. Efforts are underway to identify the culprits, with a police team actively pursuing leads based on information from the victim’s relatives.
Bithan station house officer Prakash Chandra Raju commented on the case, stating, “The motive behind the murder is not clear at this stage. The investigation is underway, and an old enmity could be one of the reasons. The family members are in shock and have not been able to provide detailed information. We are examining all possible angles, and efforts are on to arrest the culprits at the earliest.”
