Understanding Cardiac Classes

What is a Cardiac Class?

A cardiac class with Heart 2 Heart lasts for one hour. Before participating, you will undergo an exercise test, either through your cardiac rehabilitation program at the hospital or conducted by our team. This test provides critical insights, including:

– Your resting heart rate and blood pressure
– Your heart rate and blood pressure response to exercise
– Your metabolic equivalent level, indicating your current ability

Overall, this assessment helps us gauge how your heart responds to various activity levels. Based on the results, we can prescribe a tailored training level, ensuring you engage in the cardiac class without overexerting yourself. You will receive a designated training heart rate range.

Activities During a Cardiac Class

Upon attending a cardiac class with Heart 2 Heart, your blood pressure will be checked initially to confirm it falls within target limits. You will wear a cardiac monitor that allows us to adjust your exercise intensity based on your heart rate response for that day.

The class begins with a 15-minute warm-up, followed by 24 minutes of circuit training, which will gradually increase over time. Each session concludes with a 10-minute cool-down. Circuit training involves switching exercises after a set duration. As you progress, we will enhance both the duration and intensity of your exercises.

After the circuits, your blood pressure will be re-measured. Throughout the classes, we offer advice on returning to specific activities and aim to optimize your cardiac performance by improving your overall efficiency. Our physiotherapy-based service adjusts circuits to accommodate your individual limitations, such as arthritic knees or back pain.

Additionally, we provide a remote activity monitoring service via your smartphone to support your home program. We also communicate with your doctor regarding any abnormal readings observed during the session. It is important to note that you do not need to have experienced a cardiac event to join Heart 2 Heart; our primary focus is on preventing such events.
