Family History of Heart Disease

Understanding the Risks

A family history of heart disease significantly increases your risk of developing cardiovascular conditions. You are considered to have a family history of heart disease if:

  • Your father or brother was diagnosed with heart disease before the age of 55.
  • Your mother or sister was diagnosed with heart disease before the age of 65.

Genetic factors can contribute to the risk of heart disease, as well as conditions such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
