This claim is unfounded. A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association – Pediatrics has shown no significant benefits of drinking eight glasses of water each day for weight loss.
Study Overview
The research involved 38 adolescents who were divided into two groups. One group was instructed to drink eight glasses of water daily, while the other group did not increase their water intake, over a span of six months. Participants tracked their daily water consumption, and their weight changes were closely monitored.
Results of the Study
The findings indicated that the increased water consumption did not lead to any noticeable changes in body mass index (BMI) at the conclusion of the trial. Despite both groups improving their water intake, the participants’ BMIs remained relatively unchanged from the start of the study.
